At approximately 4:27 PM (JST) on July 28, 2026, a powerful earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.1 struck the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of approximately 10 km, recorded a maximum seismic intensity of 7. A tsunami advisory was issued immediately following the earthquake; however, all tsunami advisories were lifted at 6:10 PM (JST).
In response to this disaster, World in Peace is currently assessing the situation and monitoring reports on the extent of the damage and humanitarian needs.
As we continue to evaluate the situation and identify the needs of affected communities, we are considering the implementation of an emergency relief response. We are coordinating with relevant partners and preparing to provide timely assistance where it is needed most.
Should an emergency response be launched, we may ask for public donations to help support our relief efforts. Further information will be shared as the situation develops and our response plans are finalized.
